Overview

PRISM Sky and the chosen Ground Control Station are delivered preconfigured and linked. The way the radios communicate with one another are through their SSID. Watts Innovations sets the SSID to reflect the last four (4) digits of the aircraft serial number. For example: If the last four (4) digits of your aircrafts serial number is 6500 (as located on the side of the front left Arm Socket), the SSID on both the air radio and ground radio will display PRISMSKY_6500.

For additional radios purchased after your PRISM Sky has been delivered, the new radio will come preconfigured with Watts Innovations recommended settings however, the SSID will not be set from our factory and will display simpleconfig. Therefore it will NOT be linked to the aircraft and the customer will have to log into the DoodleLabs radio to set it accordingly by changing the SSID to match the SSID on the air unit. On the other hand, if purchasing an additional PRISM Sky without a GCS radio option (KONTACT or External DoodleLabs Smart Radio), the SSID will be set from our factory to reflect the last four (4) digits of the aircrafts serial number and therefore will require the SSID on the GCS radio to be changed to match the aircraft SSID in for them to communicate.

The instructions below apply to both the 2.4Ghz DoodleLabs Embedded Radio (KONTACT + PRISM Sky) and the 2.4Ghz DoodleLabs External Radio.

Instructions

  1. After following the instructions for with the Status Overview page open the UI in the browser window for the air unit radio, under the Wireless section you will see the following:

    • SSID

    • Mode

    • Channel

    • Bitrate

    • BSSID

    • Encryption

  1. With the UI window open for the radio you need to change the SSID, click on the SSID name. If purchasing a KONTACT or GCS after already purchasing a PRISM Sky the SSID will be set to simpleconfig and will need to be changed to match the air unit radio SSID in order to communicate.

  1. Scroll down to the Interface Configuration section and under the General Setup tab you will see Mesh ID (SSID).

  1. Change the Mesh ID (SSID) by simply replacing the name simpleconfig with PRISMSKY_xxxx (xxxx = last four digits of aircraft's serial number). Click SAVE & APPLY and wait ~60 seconds (1 minute) for the settings to be applied before closing the web browser.

WARNING: To prevent the radios from miscommunicating, when changing any settings on one radio, the same settings must also be changed on the other in order to properly communicate therefore it is important when connecting wirelessly to the aircraft (i.e through the ground radios) you must change, save and apply the air unit radio settings first, before the ground radio. Once the settings have been applied on the air unit radio you may proceed changing the settings on the ground unit radio to match. If you fail to do so you will be required to connect to the aircraft via ethernet to change the settings following the same methods for the radios to communicate again. Again, remember to always change the air unit radio settings first before the ground radio.

  1. After the page refreshes, confirm the new SSID has been applied under Wireless Overview.

  1. As long as no settings have been changed on the air radio you should also now see the air unit radio appear under the Associated Stations section and vice versa if changing the SSID on the ground unit.

NOTE: To validate the radios have been properly connected and are communicating, using two browser windows access the UI for each radio and perform a side by side comparison ensuring the SSID, firmware version, and radio settings (Channel, Bandwidth, etc) match. If you still cannot get the radios to communicate, please reboot both radios or please contact Watts Innovations.

NOTE: If accessing the UI for something else such as and your SSID is already set and communicating with one another your SSID will likely display as PRISMSKY_xxxx (xxxx = last four digits of aircraft's serial number).
